Zaurus 5500
For a short time, I owned a Sharp Zaurus 5500. My Palm m500 had treated me well, but the digitizer was annoyingly defective and it was time for an upgrade. The allure factor was high: the Zaurus had a CF slot (think: 802.11b), an SD slot, a large color screen, a built-in thumbboard, a headphone jack, and it ran Linux. Unfortunately, for all that the 5500 had going for it, I was never able to find an operating system that let me perform basic PDA functions will confidence.
During my time with the Zaurus, I also had a 320MB IBM Microdrive. I purchased a 64MB solid-state CF card for my more jarring outings, not wanting any head crashes on the Microdrive.
Some time in early April, 2004, I sold my Zaurus on eBay and purchased a Palm m130 from a friend.
